Is it possible to have an outdoor banner that is lightweight, durable and 100% recyclable?
In large format printing, reducing the weight of a media can make handling and installation easier, especially as dimensions increase. For outdoor applications, lightweight construction becomes a real advantage when combined with mechanical strength, durability and reliability, even under demanding conditions.
These are the requirements behind Guandong Poly-rafia, a technical fabric for digital printing developed as an alternative to traditional banners and designed to combine low weight, high mechanical performance and recyclability.

How important is weight in large format applications?
Poly-rafia weighs 165 g/m², up to 70% less than other solutions commonly available on the market, while providing high tensile strength and superior breaking load resistance. A 60 m² banner weighs just 9 kg, compared with approximately 30 kg for other solutions – a significant difference when it comes to transport, handling and installation, particularly for large vertical installations.
The material’s mechanical properties also broaden its range of applications. In addition to outdoor advertising and visual communication, Poly-rafia’s strength and impact resistance make it suitable for use in harsh weather conditions and for lightweight, easy-to-handle protective systems, such as safety barriers for ski slopes, ice rinks and motocross tracks.

How can banner recycling be made easier?
The answer starts with the material composition. Poly-rafia features a woven structure and is made from a single polyolefin resin, eliminating the need to separate different components at the end of its useful life.
As a result, the media is 100% recyclable and offers simpler, more cost-effective end-of-life management compared with traditional multi-resin banners. This is why Poly-rafia is part of Guandong’s GreenLife range, which identifies materials developed according to sustainability criteria applied throughout the production and distribution cycle.
